Sex!
What’s keeping us hooked to sex? In the Indian way of life sex is supposed to retire from our lives after a certain age. If we go by Varnashram Dharma, after living the grihastha ashram where we live a householders life procreating and furthering life on earth, we are supposed to abandon sex for pleasure. In fact, sex is not for pleasure but for begetting a progeny.
Abstaining from physical pleasures is given a very high status in India. That’s why monks and celibates are looked up to.
The question still remains why does one have to be a monk in heart to abstain? Why is it so difficult for us ordinary folks to give up the pleasures of the body?
Is the release that we feel after the act that keeps us hooked to it? The pressures of living in this body and mind finding an Aha moment… even if that moment is for a few seconds?
The release that follows an orgasm stops the noise all around and within. The constant chatter that somewhere stops us from achieving a state of trans halts. A state that can only be reached in deep meditation. Or in an act where this world ceases to exist. Where there is no other… just a complete release!
Who does not want such a state?!
But like everything else that this world has to offer achieving this state through sex is also transient. It leaves you the moment it arrives and all you are left with is an empty feeling of void. We have lived in this physical body long enough to realise that what leave is not what is supposed to stay. And what is not supposed to stay is to be seen is that exact light. A state of permanence is the goal but does that mean the pleasures of the body, no matter how passing they are, should be abandoned?
We all have our own answers and our own lives to live. If there is any Truth (with a capital T) that resides in existence then we will find it at some stage of our being.
